Update, August 26, 2026: The money is moving. State Farm began issuing the dividend on August 18, 2026, four weeks after this post said it had not landed. Payments go out in batches sorted by location and the company says the full rollout may take months, so nothing arriving yet is normal. Three details we did not have in July, all of which change what you should do: each payment is 4% to 10% of the premium you paid in 2025, not a flat $100; the dividend has to come to at least $10 to be issued; and you do not have to still be a State Farm customer, because eligibility runs off 2025. One more thing that matters as much as any of them. A dividend is not a rate cut. State Farm says premium rates “will not be affected by the issuance of a dividend,” because your rate is built on what the company expects next year to cost. Take the money, then get quotes anyway. The scam warning below applies more now than it did in July, not less, because the real notices are finally in the mail alongside the fake ones.
The rest of this post ran on July 22, 2026, and is kept as written.
If you paid a State Farm auto premium in 2025, a payment averaging about $100 per vehicle is on its way to you. As of July 21, it still had not landed. It is coming, and the version that shows up first will almost certainly be the scam.
State Farm announced the dividend on February 26, 2026. Five billion dollars, spread across more than 49 million vehicles. It is the largest one-time dividend in the mutual’s 103-year history. The company said the money would go out “this summer,” in waves by state.
We are five months in and ConsumerAffairs confirmed on July 21 that payments have not begun. State Farm’s own dividend page now says late summer 2026.
Here’s what they don’t tell you when a real settlement takes months to move: scammers watch the same news you do. Every time a big insurer announces a payout, the phone calls and text messages start. They will ask you to “verify” your policy, pay a small “processing fee,” or click a link to “claim” the money. That is always the tell. Real dividends do not ask you to claim them.
The math is straightforward. Five billion dollars, split roughly evenly across 49 million vehicles, works out to about $100 a car. Your share moves with the state your policy is written in and what you paid in premium during 2025. Not life-changing on any single vehicle, but real money if you cover two.
This is how a real notice works, so you can recognize one. If your State Farm account has a current email on file, State Farm emails you with a link into a portal where you pick digital payment or a mailed check. If no email is on file, a paper check goes to your mailing address. Either way, you do not fill out a form to claim it. You do not pay a fee. You do not hand over your bank login.
Do this now. Log into your State Farm account and check that the email address on file is one you actually read, and that the mailing address is current if you moved. Two minutes of work. If you skip it, the real notice either never reaches you or lands next to three fake ones and you can not tell which is which.
Watch the mail. Delete anything that asks you to “claim” the dividend or “verify” your policy. Do not click links in unexpected texts. If a call feels off, hang up and call State Farm directly at 1-800-STATE-FARM or your agent’s local number.

Two things this dividend is not. It is not the same as State Farm’s 6.2% California auto rate cut, which was approved March 4 and took effect May 8 on renewals. It is also not connected to State Farm’s homeowners book. Auto only. Homeowners policies, including in Florida and California where premiums have been going the other way for years, get none of this.
A dividend pays you once. A better rate pays you every six months for as long as you keep the policy, so when the check clears, treat it as a reminder rather than a reason to stay. Our auto insurance hub covers what actually moves a premium, the insurance estimator will run your number, and best auto insurance is where to start.
Update your account details today, watch your mail for a real notice, and trash anything that asks for your money to give you money back. That is always the con.
